Bekas Perdana Menteri, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad berkata beliau tiada keinginan untuk kembali menjadi pemimpin negara buat kali ketiga.

“Saya tidak berminat menjadi Perdana Menteri kali ke-3, tetapi bersedia memimpin Majlis Pemulihan Negara bagi menangani pandemik COVID-19,” katanya menerusi siaran langsung hari ini, memetik laporan Bernama.
Dalam pada itu, parti Pejuang di bawah pimpinannya dianggap sebagai ‘Third force’ dan tidak akan bergabung dengan mana-mana parti lain buat masa ini.

Pengerusi Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang), Dr Mahathir Mohamad berkata pihaknya sedia mempertimbangkan sekiranya ada pelawaan daripada Perikatan Nasional (PN) untuk menyertai kabinet di bawah gabungan itu.
“Kita akan fikir,” kata Mahathir dalam program bual bicara terbitan Bernama, sebentar tadi.
Terdahulu, Mahathir ditanya apakah bekas perdana menteri itu atau kalangan pemimpin Pejuang akan menyertai kabinet PN sekiranya dijemput untuk menyertai mereka, yang mana terdapat kumpulan dalam Umno yang digelar ‘kleptokrat’.
Ketika ditanya sama ada ahli parlimen Langkawi itu akan menyertai Pakatan Harapan (PH) jika gabungan itu dapat membentuk kerajaan, Mahathir tidak menjawab soalan tersebut.
Sebaliknya, bekas perdana menteri itu berkata dia tidak berminat dengan kedudukan dalam kabinet dan hanya mahu menangani peningkatan kes Covid-19.
“Saya tak berminat dengan kabinet, saya cuma nak dapatkan kuasa untuk tangani masalah Covid-19,” katanya ringkas.
Pada April lalu, Setiausaha Agung PN, Hamzah Zainuddin berkata gabungan itu sedia menerima sesiapa sahaja termasuk Dr Mahathir asalkan mengikuti perlembagaannya.
Ini selepas Mahathir berkata dia “mungkin” mempertimbang untuk menyertai PN jika tiada ‘penjenayah’ dalam kerajaan ketika itu.
Isnin lalu, Pengerusi Bersatu, Muhyiddin Yassin meletakkan jawatan sebagai perdana menteri setelah 15 ahli parlimen Umno menarik balik sokongan terhadapnya.
Setakat ini, persaingan untuk merebut jawatan perdana menteri dipercayai melibatkan Naib Presiden Umno, Ismail Sabri Yaakob (Ahli Parlimen Bera) dan Presiden PKR, Anwar Ibrahim (Ahli Parlimen Port Dickson).
Sementara itu, Yang di-Pertuan Agong hari ini menitahkan agar kesemua 220 ahli parlimen menghantar nama calon perdana menteri secara bertulis sebelum jam 4 petang.
Ahli Parlimen dari Umno dan Bersatu menyatakan parti itu akan menyokong Ismail, manakala Pakatan Harapan dan sekutunya mendakwa Anwar mempunyai 105 sokongan ahli parlimen.
Bagaimanapun, sebelum ini seorang anggota parlimen dari GPS berkata mereka secara prinsip telah bersetuju untuk menyokong Ismail Sabri – memberikan naib presiden Umno itu cukup sokongan untuk membentuk kerajaan.
Namun, tanda tanya mula timbul apabila Pengerusi GPS, Abang Johari Openg mengeluarkan kenyataan kepada media bahawa mereka akan menyerahkan perkara berkenaan kepada “kebijaksanaan Yang di-Pertuan Agong”.

Seorang calon perdana menteri memerlukan sokongan sekurang-kurangnya 111 ahli parlimen untuk membentuk majoriti mudah.
Menurut Istana Negara, Yang di-Pertuan Agong telah menitahkan agar perdana menteri yang baru masih perlu membuktikan majoriti diperolehinya secepat mungkin di Dewan Rakyat.
