Itulah antara sumbangan yang ‘menjadi’ dari komposer terkenal Saari Amri, anak kampung dari Kelantan yang pernah bekerja sebagai buruh kasar di Singapura selama 5 tahun pada tahun 1985.
Namun tahukah anda bahawa beliau sebenarnya menolak tawaran gelaran Dato itu. Bukan sekali, tetapi dua kali, dari dua istana berbeza!
Sebenarnya bukan mudah untuk memujuk komposer tersebut bercakap mengenai tawaran gelaran Dato yang ingin diberikan kepadanya itu.
Mungkin juga beliau bimbang akan ada yang katakan Saari menunjuk-nunjuk kerana ramai penggiat seni pun tidak mengetahuinya sehingga kini.

Sebab Saari Amri tolak pangkat Dato
Tawaran kedua bagi pangkat Dato diterimanya adalah sekitar tiga tahun lepas.
Jadi, negeri mana yang sebenarnya menawarkan Dato kepadanya? Saari Amri memilih untuk tidak menyebutnya.
Saari Amri memulakan kerjaya seninya dengan menciptakan lagu berjudul Pandang Pertama untuk Rohana Jalil ketika Saari masih bekerja di Singapura lagi.
Beliau tidak mempunyai atau mampu untuk mengikuti sebarang pendidikan formal dalam bidang muzik ketika itu.
Ini penjelasannya kepada sebuah portal media di Singapura tentang penolakan pangkat Dato itu ketika dihubungi baru-baru ini:
” Saya malulah dengan diri sendiri. Saya tak layak, apalah jasa saya?
” Bukan banyak jasa pun saya dengan negara. Saya kata saya ada anak, kalau anak kahwin saya dapat cucu, automatik jadi Dato. Mereka ketawa.”
Saari seorang komposer yang pernah menjadi guru vokal kepada pelakon dan penyanyi Andy Lau di Hong Kong. Bagaimanapun katanya, beliau berkarya bukan kerana nama dan tidak mengejar gelaran.
” Saya tak perlu benda itu, cukuplah orang kenal saya. Lagipun saya suka lepak di mana-mana, di kedai mamak, kedai minum. Mesti orang akan fikir apalah Dato ni, hari-hari lepak sini,” katanya lagi.
Selama 30 tahun mencipta lagu dan menerbitkan album, Saari berjaya menghasilkan sekitar 500 buah lagu yang masih diminati sehingga kini dan sering diperdengarkan di corong radio.
Ketika bekerja dengan syarikat rakaman antarabangsa BMG Music pada tahun 1991 sebagai pekerja stor sahaja dan dinaikkan pangkat menjadi pengurus, beliau berkesempatan menghasilkan lagu-lagu berjudul Duri Terlindung dan Aku Takkan Bersuara nyanyian Nike Ardilla.
Pernah terpaksa mengemis di Chow Kit, sekolah sampai darjah 6 saja
Siapa sangka lagu itu telah berjaya mengangkat nama Saari di Indonesia kerana menjadi hits dalam sekelip mata di Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapura dan Brunei.
” Mengenangkan kembali zaman susah dulu, saya memang sedih.
” Pernah satu tahap, saya terpaksa mengemis, meminta makanan di kawasan Jalan Chow Kit semata-mata untuk meneruskan hidup. Mujurlah ada yang bersimpati.
” Puas mencuba, akhirnya Tuhan membuka pintu rezeki saya apabila lagu saya diterima oleh syarikat rakaman NSR.
” Saya jenis tak malu menjaja lagu saya ketika di BMG. Pernah bila lagu Ziana Zain dan Shima meletup, penyanyi Ella telefon saya. Saya bagi lagu Sembilu.
” Saya tak sekolah pun, Darjah 6 saja. Dari gaji RM1,000 naik RM5,000 waktu itu,” kongsi komposer tersebut.
Kami risik lagi isi hatinya, mengapa beliau menolak gelaran Dato untuk kali kedua. Ini jawapan komposer berusia 54 tahun itu dengan perlahan:
” Gelaran itu terlalu tinggilah dan saya banyak melihat kawan-kawan yang ada gelaran Dato, lain karektor dia, cakap berlagak. Watak dan percakapan pun lain dan ada dah tak boleh jumpa lagi.
” Saya bukan orang macam itu nak kena jaga imej bila dapat gelaran, nak lepak pun orang akan bercakap.
” Saya lebih suka macam ini seperti orang biasa. Saya selalu jumpa mereka dulu minum-minum tapi sejak pakai gelaran terus hilang, tak telefon (saya).“
Duduk di kedai-kedai biasa sememangnya sebahagian jiwanya sebagai budak kampung yang pernah susah sehingga terpaksa merantau ke Singapura menjadi buruh kasar. Beliau malah mengaku menjadi “budak selekeh Chow Kit.”
” Memanglah, ada mereka sanggup bayar untuk dapat gelaran, puluh ribu atau beratus ribu. Itu biasa, saya lebih seronok macam ini biarlah jadi macam P. Ramlee.
” Bila ada orang langsung tak peduli, bila dah tidak ada barulah kelam-kabut orang beri dia macam-macam anugerah,” Saari menambah komen.
Dedah rahsia nama Amri
Tentu ramai yang ingin tahu, dari mana datangnya Amri yang diletakkan pada penghujung namanya itu. Dedah Saari, ada maksud tersendiri di sebalik penghasilan nama itu.
” Selepas mak dan ayah berpisah, saya dibesarkan oleh emak. Dialah yang banyak berkorban untuk saya.
” Pada mulanya saya letak nama saya sebagai Saari AM yang bermaksud Saari anak mak.
” Bagaimanapun, untuk menyedapkan lagi nama itu, kawan-kawan mencadangkan supaya ia dipanjangkan menjadi Amri. Lagipun bunyinya lebih sedap,” katanya.
Sementara itu, kelibatnya yang jarang kelihatan di kaca televisyen membuatkan ramai yang menyangka Saari kini dipinggirkan berikutan dirinya sudah tidak lagi relevan kepada industri.

” Bagaimanapun, saya terpaksa menolaknya kerana pernah berlaku sebelum ini, peserta yang saya pilih dan dirasakan layak untuk menang digagalkan kerana produksi mahu peserta lain, atas pelbagai alasan.
” Perkara seperti inilah yang membuatkan saya tawar hati untuk menerima sebarang undangan. Lebih selesa duduk di belakang tabir sahaja,” kata Saari yang pernah mencuba nasib menjadi penyanyi bersama kumpulan Ways ini.

Duit royalti dalam RM200 ribu setahun
Banyak menghabiskan masanya di rumah dan sesekali di pejabat, Saari bersyukur kerana segala kerja keras ketika namanya berada di puncak banyak membantunya untuk meneruskan kehidupan.
” Terus-terang, duit royalti yang saya dapat saban tahun itulah yang digunakan untuk menampung kehidupan dan membesarkan anak-anak yang masih belajar. Bak kata orang, masa untuk menuai hasil selepas bercucuk tanam.
” Selama 30 tahun dalam industri, saya ada 600 lagu yang sudah berada di pasaran dan lagu popular saya bersilih ganti muncul di dunia muzik.
” Ini berbeza dengan komposer sekarang yang ada sebuah lagu popular, lepas itu senyap. Apapun, saya bersyukur dengan kehidupan saya sekarang. Lebih tenang dan santai.
